Expecting Baby Cherry: Our Maternity Session

January 3, 2018

If you’ve been following along this past year, you may already know we are expecting our first child (a baby girl!) this month. I can’t believe how fast these days, weeks and months have flown. Some days it felt like her due date was forever away, and now that we are just a few weeks out, I’m sitting in pure wonder that we will get to meet her so soon!

To be honest with you, I have always been one of those women who was quite terrified of being pregnant. All the discomforts, all that could go wrong, you name it, I worried about it. But here we are and what a sweet journey it has been. Because I wasn’t sure how I’d feel when I was pregnant, I wasn’t 100% sure I’d want to do a maternity session either. As time marched on, I couldn’t help but want to bottle this season up and savor all the anticipation. Oh, I’m so glad we ended up doing a maternity session! My sweet friend, Elisa Bricker, blew us away with these gorgeous and timeless photos of a season I will never want to forget. And I couldn’t have done it without the oh-so-talented Anna Breeding who made me feel my best!

I’m excited to share a few of our favorites today, along with a few notes, as I’ll be officially starting my maternity leave next Friday! Thank you to each and every one of you who have encouraged us and loved on us throughout this season. We can’t wait to meet our sweet girl and I can’t wait to introduce her to you soon!

How has your pregnancy been so far?
I’m truly so thankful to say that this pregnancy has been such a joy! Of course, that first trimester isn’t the most fun with some nausea and major food aversions thrown in there, but I truly have enjoyed being pregnant.

What has been your favorite part of pregnancy?
My goodness, her movements by far. Sometimes I feel like I have a hockey puck in my stomach from how active she can be, but it never ceases to amaze me what a miracle it is to carry life inside of you

What has surprised you most about pregnancy?
So many things….What a joy it’s been. How gracious people have been. How loved we’ve felt by our community…the list goes on. I will say how people (family, friends, and clients!) have surrounded us with such encouragement and excitement hast truly blown me away. I’m incredibly grateful and boy is this baby girl loved!

Do you plan to continue working?
Absolutely. I’m so thankful to do this work I love and document such sweet seasons for so many couples and families! I’m also thankful there’s a bit of flexibility that comes along with owning my own business and I already have a number of weddings and families I’m so excited to work with this year.

So, do you plan on taking maternity leave?
Yes! I’m so thankful for the timing of our girl in that it’s a slower time of year for me, so I’ll be taking leave mid-January through the end of April. I have a wedding and some sessions during my leave, but for the most part, I’ll be taking a break from shooting during that time. As for new clients, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I won’t be responding within my typical 24 hours so I can spend time getting to know our daughter and loving on her fiercely,  but I will be answering emails weekly after that first week or two after she’s born so you will still hear from me!

Have you had any cravings?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions and I always laugh because my cravings have been so random! My most craved foods include pickled red onions, cheese sticks, and peas…. though my sweet tooth has kicked into high gear this past month!

Will we hear from you throughout maternity leave?
I’m working to create blog content to share throughout the next few months, as I have work I’m eager to share with you! So, you can expect some periodic posts here and some updates on Instagram. If you don’t follow me yet, make sure to hop on over and follow along!
